ARAN
Aran Wool is a medium weight yarn, which is perfect for thicker jumpers, cardigans and accessories without being too bulky.
Make no mistake though, when we say Aran Wool is a medium weight yarn, a typical 40” Sweater can still weight approx. 1.5Kgs.
Our Aran wool has multiple plies, which creates a really round yarn making it perfect for its ability to produce fantastic stitch definition for cables, moss stitch and other textured pattern effects.
ARAN HEATHER BLENDS
Aran Heather blends is a lighter weight yarn, however, as we knit with 2 x ends of this, it ends up just ever so slightly lighter than our Aran yarn. All of our Aran Heather blends yarn is produced with care and spun to the highest quality on a traditional 19th century spinning mule, which is powered by renewable energy. The supplier specialises in producing high quality British yarn.
COTTON
Cotton is a very light yarn, however, as we knit with a whopping 10 x ends of this, it ends up about on par with our Aran yarn. Cotton is ideal for the Spring, cooler Summer nights and Autumn. Our Cotton, is a three fold ring spun combed cotton yarn. As it is three ply yarn the cross section is quite round. Combing is the process used to remove short fibres, trash and other impurities. Ring spinning is the traditional method to give a smooth strong yarn.
DENIM COTTON
Denim Cotton is a medium to heavy weight yarn, however, as we knit with 2 x ends of this, it ends up a heavy weight, heavier than our Aran yarn. Our Indigo yarn, is the world’s first dyed yarn created and manufactured for use in the knitting trade. The yarn is dyed as a rope, the self-same dyeing method of the best quality denim yarns, and then by a unique series of processes these yarns are obtained.
COTTON / LINEN
Cotton/Linen is a light yarn, however, as we knit with 4 x ends of 2 Ply, this ends up just slightly lighter than our Cotton yarn. Cotton/Linen is ideal for the Spring, cooler Summer nights and Autumn. Our Cotton/Linen, is made up of 67% Cotton & 33% Linen, it is an effect yarn produced by folding a pure Cotton slub yarn with a blended Cotton/Linen yarn. The colour is entirely natural.
NATURALLY NEUTRAL
Naturally Neutral yarn is a very fine yarn, however, as we knit with 4 x Ends of 2Ply, it ends up just ever so slightly lighter than our Aran yarn. The Naturally Neutral shades are British Wool, the shades have been achieved by blending naturally black wool with naturally white wool, without the black sheep these various shades of brown could only be achieved through dyeing.
NATURALLY COLOURFUL, CONTRASTING, MARBLED, PASTEL & SUBTLE
These are very fine yarns, however, as we knit with 4 x Ends of 2Ply, they end up just ever so slightly lighter than our Aran yarn.
The range of colourful effects in these yarns are achieved by dyeing Naturally Neutral yarn, which means that only the white wool takes the colour and the black remains as black, giving some really interesting effects.

British Wool yarn is a very fine yarn, however, as we knit with 4 x Ends of 2Ply, it ends up just ever so slightly lighter than our Aran yarn.
The United Kingdom has more sheep breeds than any other country in the world. In addition to these, there are many cross breeds. Therefore, British wool has a diverse typology, with varied features and uses.
SHETLAND
Shetland yarn is a fine yarn, however, as we knit with 4 x Ends of 2Ply, it ends up just ever so slightly lighter than our Aran yarn.
The fibre used to produce the S08 Shetland is mainly a Shetland type, purchased from New Zealand, which is often blended with some British wool. The yarn is dyed, blended, carded, spun, wound and twisted in the UK. Shetland wool is known for being durable and hardy, as the climate on the northern island where Shetland Sheep were originally founded can get quite cold. This means Shetland wool is terrific for warm and toasty garments. If it’s too rough for your liking, it is perfect layered over a shirt.
SUPERSOFT SHETLAND
Our Supersoft Shetland yarn is a softer alternative to our S08 Shetland, as they used the finest and softest Shetland wools from younger lambs of the Shetland Breeds in New Zealand. This is a fine yarn, however, as we knit with 4 x Ends of 2Ply, it ends up just ever so slightly lighter than our S08 Shetland yarn.
Shetland sheep are known for being durable and hardy, as the climate on the northern island where Shetland Sheep were originally founded can get quite cold. The woollen (carded) yarn is ring-spun, made from the softest Shetland wools. The Soft Shetland yarn is dyed, blended, carded, spun, wound and twisted in the UK and are finer than our S08 Shetland range but are still lofty and light, trapping air which makes our sweaters/garments lighter, less scratchy but still warm and toasty.
KILCARRA TWEED
Kilcarra Tweed is a medium weight yarn, which is perfect for thicker jumpers, cardigans and accessories, we normally knit with 2 x Ends, which results in a garment slightly heavier than our Aran yarn, which means when knitted in single end, the result is a slightly lighter than Aran garment. Kilcarra Tweed uses only the best wools and meets all the requirements of a modern yarn. Made with large flecks and spun in the traditional woolen spun process, it consists of all the ingredients of the traditional homespun Donegal.
Kilcarra Tweed is an authentic, colourful yarn with a contemporary twist.
DONEGAL SILK TWEED
Donegal Silk Tweed is blend of 90% pure wool and 10% silk, which creates a robust yet lightweight yarn, we normally knit with 2 x Ends, which results in a garment ever so slightly lighter than our Aran yarn.
Our Donegal Silk Tweed is traditionally spun to the highest quality on a traditional 19th century spinning mule, which is powered by renewable energy in Scotland. The supplier specialises in producing high quality British yarn.
BLUEFACED LEICESTER
Bluefaced Leicester is a very fine yarn, however, as we knit with 4 x Ends of 2Ply, it ends up just ever so slightly lighter than our Aran yarn.
Bluefaced Leicester is the finest commercial ‘Lustre’ wool in the world, the brightness and softness is due to the lack of scales on the surface of the fibre compared to other wools. As well as being a fine micron, the wool is also long, crimped and lustrous. The breed is completely unique to the British Isles and the name Bluefaced Leicester is due to the fact the sheep have a blueish tinge to their face.
CASHMERE
Cashmere is a very light/fine yarn, however, as we knit with a whopping 10 x ends of 2Ply, it ends up just slightly lighter than our Aran yarn.
Our Cashmere is sourced in China/Inner Mongolia from cashmere goats. The fibre comes from the fine undercoat. The fibre is very fine in order to protect the goats from the freezing winters, it is known for being supersoft, delicate and luxurious. We only source the finest fibre to produce the softest products. Only about 25% of a cashmere goats fleece is used, so it takes the hair of two goats just to make one very lightweight cashmere sweater, which is why Cashmere can be so expensive.
COAST
Coast yarn is a relatively light yarn, however, as we knit with 6 x Ends of 2Ply, it ends up just ever so slightly lighter than our Aran yarn.
This luxurious, rounded yarn is a beautiful blend of 55% merino lambswool and 45% cotton, creating a unique soft and light handle.
The rounded character of Coast Yarn creates knitted designs with a beautiful drape and great stitch definition.
SOFT DONEGAL
Soft Donegal is a medium weight yarn, we normally knit with 3 x Ends, which results in a garment almost on par with a Aran garment.
Using only the best wools it meets all the requirements of modern yarn with a soft handle, yet with its large beautiful flecks of colour and having been spun in the traditional woolen spun method it has all the ingredients of the traditional homespun Donegal.
MOHAIR TWEED
Mohair Tweed is a medium weight yarn, we normally knit with 2x Ends, which results in a garment almost on par with a Aran garment
A luxurious blend of 70% Merino Lambswool and 30% Mohair, creating a truly unique combination of colour, weightless volume and soft handle in a Donegal yarn.
Mohair is hair from the Angora goat. It’s smoother than wool but not as soft as cashmere so it’s on a middle ground. Due to the goat’s coarser outer hairs mixed with its fluffy undercoat, Mohair is known to have a fuzzy texture.
ALPACA TWEED
Alpaca Tweed is a light to medium weight yarn, we normally knit with 2 x Ends, which results in a garment just slightly lighter than an Aran garment. Alpaca Tweed, consists of 83% Merino and 17% Alpaca. Alpaca fleece is a soft, durable luxurious and silky natural fibre that compliments with our Soft Donegal, creating a light, soft and stunning two-colour combination.
MERINO LAMBSWOOL
Merino Lambswool is a very light/fine yarn, however, as we knit with 8 x ends of 2Ply, it ends up just about on par with our Aran yarn.
Our Lambswool is sourced from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Lambswool is the finest, softest fleece that comes from a lamb’s first shearing, usually when the lamb is six or seven months old. Because the micron is very fine, it means that there are a lot of fibres in the cross section. This makes the product very warm and warmer than many other lambswool products. The cross section fineness makes it more flexible, softer, and less itchy. Like all wool Merino Lambswool is breathable and helps your body regulate temperature.
LAMBSWOOL
Lambswool is a lighter yarn, which can be knitted with 4 or 6 x ends of 2Ply, depending on the required thickness of the garment, therefore ending up either slightly lighter or heavier than our Aran yarn.
Our Lambswool is sourced from new wool taken from the lambs first shearing in New Zealand and South America. Generally speaking lambswools finer fibres allow for the spinning of incredibly high quality soft yarn. The garments are warm, thick, and comfortable to the touch. New Wool is the term used for wool that is shorn from living sheep and is a natural sustainable product grown by sheep and usually shorn annually. The product taken from the young sheep after about six months of age is called Lambswool. Wool is naturally breathable in both cold and warm weather and therefore very insulating.
