A mobile crane is a cable-controlled crane mounted on crawlers or rubber-tired carriers or a hydraulic-powered crane with a telescoping boom mounted on truck-type carriers or as self-propelled models. Through a combination of simple machines, mobile cranes are able to gain a mechanical advantage to lift heavy objects. The mast (the tall vertical part of a crane) is supported by a large, heavy base, which helps offset the weight the crane holds at higher heights. Mobile cranes are used for moving large and heavy materials. These versatile cranes easily adapt to various work sites and lift a wide range of loads. They can be used with little or no assembly to hoist, transport, and place equipment and are commonly used for construction, wind power, and HVAC projects.

A crawler crane consists of an upper carriage mounted on a crawler type undercarriage. The upper deck and attachments rotate 360º. A crawler crane features either a box or a lattice type straight boom and it may be equipped with an optional jib (boom extension). A crawler crane is perfect for carrying large and heavy loads, such as steel beams, concrete blocks, and other construction materials, due to its enormous lifting capability and long reach. They are frequently employed in the construction of bridges, wind turbines, heavy lift operations, and other expansive projects.
