What is CF8M Investment Casting?

CF8M (also known as 316 stainless steel) is an austenitic stainless steel with superior corrosion resistance, excellent mechanical properties, and good weldability. The CF8M material composition is approximately:

• 18% Chromium
• 8% Nickel
• 2-3% Molybdenum
• The balance is Iron along with trace amounts of Carbon, Manganese, Silicon, Phosphorus, and Sulfur.

Investment casting, also known as precision casting or lost-wax casting, is a manufacturing process where a wax pattern is coated with a refractory ceramic material. Once the ceramic material hardens, it forms a ceramic shell around the wax pattern. The wax is then melted out, and molten metal is poured into the ceramic mold cavity to form the final casting.
