What is Tacrolimus for: This medication is an immunosupressant, prescribed for preventing organ rejection during transplantation. It decreases the activity of immune system to prevent an organ from rejection. How does Tacrolimus work: Tacrolimus helps the body accept an organ transplant. It lowers the bodys harmful response to diseases of the immune system. How should Tacrolimus be used: It comes as an ointment to apply topically as directed by your physician. Topical- As 0.03% ointment- Apply a thin layer over the affected skin twice daily. Common side effects of Tacrolimus : High blood pressure. Kidney function that gets worse. Chance of getting an infection. Wash hands often. Stay away from people with infections, colds, or flu. Feeling dizzy. Rise slowly over a few minutes when sitting or lying down. Be careful climbing. Headache. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Loose stools (diarrhea). Not able to sleep. Sunburn. What do I do if I miss a dose Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time.
